Boards and Committees give Immanuel members an opportunity to work with others to help fulfill our mission to serve Christ and His people. If you're interested in serving in a specific part of the ministry at Immanuel, please submit the form at the bottom of the page. Our boards are always looking for more people to assist with specific projects, so feel free to reach out if you're not quite ready to commit to being on a board or committee yet.
Board of Trustees are the Corporate Officers of Immanuel Lutheran Church. The purpose of this board is to provide lay leadership and executive responsibility for Immanuel Lutheran Church, and represent the congregation in all legal matters. Current focuses include maintaining balanced budgets, through responsible giving & spending, oversight of Childcare Ministry progress & growth, planning 150th Anniversary Celebration & other special projects, and ongoing development of future lay leadership of Church.
The Elders care for the spiritual welfare of the Pastor(s) and congregation members, individually and corporately, and the supervision of everything pertaining to congregation worship. Current goals include building the LINK program, facilitating outreach through technology, and establishing security protocols.
The purpose of this board is the proper maintenance and repair of church property, the general protection of the congregation against loss or damage of whatever nature, and the responsibility for custodial personnel. The Board of Property organizes work days in the Spring and Fall as needed, and utilizes gifts of members to care for the facility.
The purpose of this board is to promote the use of the God-given blessings and abilities of all the church members for the support of the work of His Kingdom. They work diligently to maintain a balanced budget, organize use of the Time & Talent questionnaire, and educate members regarding stewardship opportunities.
Immanuel Lutheran School
The Board of Immanuel Lutheran School supports and oversees the important work of Christian education through our day school. This includes reviewing and establishing policies, overseeing the finances of the school, working with the principal and faculty to assure proper accreditations and standards, and being advocates for Christian education.
The purpose of this board is to bring the Gospel to the unchurched and to foster the deepening of faith and outreach activity and programs of the members in this congregation. Some of the ways the Board of Evangelism carries out their calling is to plan Oktoberfest Outreach (including the Float and Shuttle service), Expand our New Neighbor Outreach, consider County Fair Outreach, enact PACK events, and focus on Outreach through modern technology.
The purpose of this board is to incorporate our youth into the ministry of the church, to provide for their spiritual growth and maturity, and to enable them to apply their Christian faith in daily life.
Current projects include creating database of Immanuel youth Alumni, updating youth room for functionality and best use of space, encouraging more frequent church attendance for high school and above, and re-establishing some sort of post high-school After-FLY ministry group. The Board of Youth also maintains regular youth programs and fundraising.
The purpose of this board is to be concerned with all the churches' educational activities and programs (except those of Immanuel Lutheran School), to encourage Bible study for all church members, and to offer programs for better understanding of the Word. This Board provides monthly at-home devotions for families, oversees Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and sponsors events such as the Easter Egg Hunt for families!
The Board of Human Care exists to let the love of God, demonstrated in Jesus' personal care for each individual and His suffering and dying for all, guide in ministering compassionately to areas of human need and suffering and in promoting healthy human development and well being.
The Board hosts a Quarterly Blood Drive by partnering with the American Red Cross. They organize Meal train events as needed – Providing meals for members experiencing life changing circumstances due to medical event. The Board oversees the Christmas basket food drive, various clothing drives, and other events and instances throughout the year where caring for our community is involved.
Fellowship and Assimilation
The purpose of this board is to assimilate members, and to strengthen the spiritual and social fellowship between congregation members. We host new member dinners, Family Movie Night, Anniversary Dinners, and more events throughout the year to connect the Immanuel members.
The purpose of the Missions board is to search out and recommend to the congregation or its individual members opportunities for service and support in the mission field.
The Missions Board supports Holy Cross in Scott County by encouraging them and attending their activities, provides points of contact with missionaries that ILC supports by inviting them to visit or sharing news with the congregation, and plans mission trips.
The Immanuel Lutheran Church Foundation establishes and manages significant investments in the ministry of Immanuel. It provides ways for members to provide well beyond their lifetime means of supporting the church and school as well as mission opportunities, scholarships for students preparing for ministries of the church, and human care efforts.
The purpose of this committee is to ensure the integrity of financial accountability for all the funds used in Immanuel Church organizations by way of a thorough review of financial records. They are responsible only to the Voters.
The purpose of this board is to maintain and update all records and property of the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Committee members also meet with individuals to show them available gravesites.
The purpose of this committee is to secure qualified candidates for all open elective offices. The Nominating Committee asks and recruits members in order to submit names annually to the Voters Assembly for positions to be elected.
Oktoberfest Booth Committee
The Oktoberfest Committee organizes the “Suppenhaus” at the Seymour Oktoberfest each year. Working with volunteers who prepare food, the committee recruits adequate staff for serving and also organizes the set up and take down of the booth.
Fair Stand Committee
The purpose of this committee is to plan, organize, and run the operation of the food stand at the Jackson County Fair each year. The members of the committee are assigned to a day/shift and recruit volunteers to execute a well-run food booth at the fair. This fundraising opportunity has been a long-standing tradition of fellowship and fun for the members of Immanuel in addition to a significant source of income for missions and special projects.
Immanuel Golf Outing Committee
The Golf Committee organizes the annual Immanuel Fellowship Golf Outing, which benefits the students of Immanuel Lutheran School. The committee organizes events for the day, secures the location, engages sponsors, and seeks to fill all available teams for this scramble.
The Mission Statement for the Heritage Room Committee is as follows:
"To gather, preserve and display artifacts, memorabilia, recordings, records and documents of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran School that can encourage present and future generations to appreciate how the Lord has blessed Immanuel and worked in her midst."
The Heritage Room Committee is always looking for items that will be able to show the history of Immanuel. Many people might have old items in albums, books, drawers, and boxes that they have forgotten about having. More and more members are bringing items to the committee and we are renewing things from the past.
Child Care Committee
This committee provides direction and support for Immanuel Lutheran Child Care Ministry. This includes reviewing and establishing policies, overseeing finances, working with the Director and staff to assure proper accreditations and standards, and being advocates for the child care ministry.
