Anchor House Winter Shelter Donations

Anchor House, the agency in town that has been dedicated to helping at risk families, is opening a shelter for emergency housing during the winter months.  Immanuel has agreed to partner with them in getting items for the new facility that will open very soon.  The attached list contains items that are needed.  There will be barrels set up on the entrances of the church to accept donations.  Also, there is an Amazon shopping list you can visit. Goods purchased on that site will automatically be shipped to Anchor House. Thanks for your prayerful consideration to participate.

              Gleaners Food Bank

Immanuel is partnering with Gleaners Food Bank to provide volunteers to load donated food into vehicles on February 23 from 3:15 – 6:00 p.m.  We need 10 – 12 volunteers to put boxes (approximately 30 pounds) in the trunks of people who come for the assistance.  The event will take place in the parking lot of Tanger Outlet Mall and will happen as long as the temperature is above 30 degrees.  This will be a “contactless” event so you would not be in close contact with any of the recipients.  It is also a great opportunity to teach children the value of volunteering, and children from age 13+ are welcome to participate as long as they’re with a parent or guardian.  Would you prayerfully consider volunteering for this event?  Please call the office, 812-522-3118, and we will put your name on the list and will get additional information to you as the day gets closer.

Hurricane Sally Relief in Fairhope, Alabama

If you’re interested in helping with hurricane relief feel free to contact Pastor Rodriguez.

There remains much work and many families in need of assistance with clean-up in this area. If you as an individual or with a group are willing and able to serve in the area, please call the church office. The Southern District Emergency Relief Team continues to seek volunteers and has housing available in that area.

Helping Our Neighbor:   Sometimes our neighbor is next door, or in our own community, where we feed the hungry and provide clothing for those in need.  Other times, the neighbor is farther away.  In the past, when hurricanes and other storms have wreaked havoc, Immanuel members have responded.  That is also true in the aftermath of Hurricane Sally.  Here are ways you can help:

              • Pray for the families and churches and schools affected
              • Go in person to lend a hand. The LCMS- Southern Disctrict Disaster Response Team will be stationed in South Alabama for the remainder of the year. Please visit for more information.
              • Provide a gift.  LCMS Disaster relief has people on the ground in Florida and Alabama, California and Oregon, Iowa, and others hard-hit areas.  You can send a check to the church that we can forward, or mail directly to LCMS Disaster Relief, 1333 South Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO  63122-7226. Thanks!

Due to the great need in Haiti for food we ask that you consider how you and your family can contribute financially to help meet the needs of families in Haiti who are starving. We are asking if each family in our congregation would consider making a one time or weekly contribution over the next several months. Donate to Haiti ONLINE HERE or drop your donation off in the Feeding Haiti box in the narthex.

Use your gifts here at Immanuel

God has given you gifts to be used within the body of Christ. St. Paul wrote: “We have different gifts according to the grace given us.” Rom. 12:4-6

Our gifts are not the same for good reason. We work together to accomplish the many things He asks us to do. There are hundreds of ways to contribute to the health and mission of our church, and each of them provide ways to be connected to other members. We want to do what we can to make sure you can get involved in ways that you like.

Each of us is gifted in some way by God to be of help in the work of the church, the body of Christ. God’s blessings to you as you serve Him and fellow members of the body here!
